Cancer screening: found early, treated better
Many cancers cause no symptoms early on. Screening looks for them before symptoms start.
Cancer screening means testing people who have no symptoms, to find cancer or pre-cancerous changes early. Cancers found early are usually easier to treat.
Screening at the clinic
- Liver and bile duct cancer: ultrasound and blood tests
- Bowel cancer: test for hidden blood in the stool
- Breast cancer: examination by the doctor and breast ultrasound
- Cervical and ovarian cancer: pelvic examination, sample and ultrasound
- Prostate cancer: PSA blood test and ultrasound
Who should be screened
Which tests you need depends on your age, sex and family history. If a relative has had cancer, or you smoke, drink regularly or have hepatitis B or C, talk to the doctor about a screening plan.
This is general information and does not replace a doctor’s advice. If you have symptoms, please come in.
